
Telit is expanding its portfolio with the addition of two new Narrow Band-IoT (NB-IoT) modules, aiming to provide greater focus for smart metering, smart city applications, and more.
The modules are NE310H2-W1 and NL865H2-W1, which are suitable for 2G to 4G NB-IoT transition. The NE310H2-W1 and NL865H2-W1 modules serve various purposes like smart metering for electricity, gas and water, smart city applications, smart agriculture and almost any type of industrial sensor or mass-deployment application.
The NE310H2-W1, with its 15x18mm LGA form factor, is ideal for size-constrained applications with low power consumption, pin-to-pin compatible with 2G and LTE-M modules of the miniature Telit xE310 Family. Whereas the NL865H2-W1, with its 24.4×24.4mm VQFN form factor, guarantees a smooth evolution for all those customers that want to upgrade and future proof their devices based on Telit 2G and 3G xL865 module, with limited redesign effort and optional built-in eSIM available for the NL865H2-W1 for connectivity integrated in the module.
A recent report from Strategy Analytics predicted that the sales of IoT cellular devices will approach 350 million per year by 2025, fuelled by 5G, with China continuing to provide a healthy impetus to the market. According to this report, the shipments of 4G IoT modules will peak within three years, as 5G modules begin slowly in 2019, with 2023 a key inflection point, as 5G modules outstrip those of 4G modules.
Late last month, US carrier Sprint announced two new updates to its Curiosity IoT platform, which is powered by Ericsson’s IoT accelerator. With these updates, the platform has been enhanced with a private IoT network solution and a NB-IoT functionality that provides the company’s enterprise customers an ability to capture the potential in new IoT use cases across a variety of industry verticals.
