Singapore-based engineering company ST Engineering has signed a partnership agreement with Nokia to work together on key technology areas like 5G and IoT and expand their business offerings to their customers in the public as well as private sectors.
Collaboration between the two companies will allow expansion of their joint solution portfolio and place them in a better position to pursue new business opportunities, which will eventually benefit customers by providing them with a more comprehensive set of technology and connectivity solutions.
As part of this partnership, ST Engineering will be reselling Nokia’s internet protocol (IP), optical networking, and wireless broadband solutions, including 5G, last-mile and analytics. Whereas, Nokia will integrate ST Engineering’s Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) and cyber-security solutions in its global project offerings. In addition, both companies will cover dynamic markets like Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Taiwan, Australia, and New Zealand, with plans to extend the joint portfolio beyond the Asia-Pacific region in the future.
Recent reports suggest that Nokia has secured 42 commercial contracts related to 5G equipment, surpassing competitors Huawei (with 40 5G orders) and Ericsson (with 19 5G orders). According to Nokia, it won 12 new 5G orders since late March and about 22 of its deals are with T-Mobile, SoftBank, and Telia. In May, the Finnish vendor, along with Ericsson, won a 5G contract with Japan’s SoftBank, leaving Huawei and ZTE behind the race. It is reported that Ericsson will provide its renowned RAN (Radio Access Network) equipment to SoftBank for 5G bands in the mid and high frequencies, whereas SoftBank will have an opportunity to unlock the potential of 5G through Nokia’s advanced product portfolio.
